WHAT
IS RAINBOW?
The
International Order of the Rainbow for Girls is a non-profit,
service organization for girls between the ages of 11 and
20 offering an interesting and complete program of general
youth character development, the best environment, with
worthwhile associates and a wholesome occupation of spare
time. Rainbow Girls dedicate their time to service. Their
primary goal is to serve others and humanity. Giving unselfishly
of one’s self to assist another in need can be one
of the most rewarding experiences in life. Rainbow, founded
in 1922, provides an opportunity for its members to build
a strong base from which to launch their future and prepare
for the responsibilities of adulthood through leadership
and participation in local and national charities, such
as Make-A-Wish Foundation, Guide Dogs for the Blind, National
Melanoma Foundation, Childhood Learning Disorder Centers,
Muscular Dystrophy Research, as well as various community
service projects. Parents are cordially invited to all meetings
and events to provide additional support for their daughters.
Many parents have found that their participation in Rainbow
has provided an opportunity to establish a unique relationship
with their daughters. Who may Join Rainbow? Any girl between
the ages of 11 and 19. Rainbow Assemblies are located in
most cities and can be found by calling your local Masonic
Lodge.

RELIGION
AND RAINBOW
“And
the bow shall be in the cloud; and I will look upon it,
that I may remember the everlasting covenant between God
and every living creature of all flesh that is upon the
Earth.” Is there a more beautiful sight after a storm,
when clouds part and there appears a profusion of color
– a rainbow?” The International Order of the
Rainbow for Girls is NOT a religion, cult or secret order.
Nor is the organization connected with any other group using
the word “rainbow” in their name or logo. The
high principles, standards and moral values of the Order
have been consistent throughout the 84 years of its existence.
This results in young ladies having poise, grace, speaking
abilities and character far above their peers. The teachings
of Faith in God and themselves, Hope for the future, and
Charity for the less fortunate will continue to have a place
in their adult lives. The International Order of the Rainbow
for Girls offers a golden opportunity for teen-age girls
to gain self confidence, self respect, and leadership skills.
The lessons taught to the girls at their initiation ceremony
are represented by the colors of the rainbow.
Short
lectures are given on the subjects of Love (red), Religion
(orange), Nature (yellow), Immortality (green), Fidelity
(blue), Patriotism (indigo) and Service (violet).

RAINBOW
AND FAMILY VALUES
All
parents want a “better life” for their children.
Family values and a better life have always been important
principles and teachings of the International Order of the
Rainbow for Girls. To honor our parents, to obey the laws
of our government, to worship in our chosen religion, to
be true and loyal to our family and friends, to be the very
best we can be and to not let small obstacles stand in our
path, are all attributes Rainbow teaches and encourages
in its members. The Order is structured around two basic
principles:
|
LOVE
AND SERVICE
Love
of: Service to: A Supreme Being, Community, Parents, Charities,
Country, Less Fortunate, One’s Self, Each Other, The
rewards a girl will gain are: Self Confidence, Self Respect,
Effective Leadership Skills, Achievement of High Goals,
Eligibility for Scholarship Programs, Public Speaking, Association
with Peers Having the Same High Standards

EDUCATION
AND RAINBOW
The
International Order of the Rainbow for Girls is a golden
opportunity for young girls to develop self confidence,
self respect, and self control and leadership skills. At
the same time the girls enjoy lasting and life-long friendships,
develop public speaking skills and have wholesome fun. Many
members are active in student government, sports, dance
and acrobatics as well as community activities. They are
encouraged to form a new interest in their church and school.
They learn to ably manage their time to participate in and
enjoy all aspects of teen-age life. Rainbow offers scholarships
to its qualifying members. Membership entitles many girls
to added financial assistance toward their education from
other Masonic Bodies. Service to those in need or less fortunate
is a primary teaching of Rainbow. Each Assembly is self-supporting.
The girls plan various fund raising projects such as Car
Washes, Garage Sales, Candy Sales, etc., to meet their Assembly’s
operation expenses. Rainbow teaches its members to take
responsibility for their own actions. It takes young, unsure
girls and turns them into graceful, elegant, young ladies
whose poise and charm earns them the respect of their peers.
